It's CK Today Calendar time and we're looking for great photos!
30 June, 2010 10:47
It’s that time of year again everybody! We’re putting together the CK Today Calendar that you see everywhere. We print more each year and still run out….and we’re happy about that!
We have great sponsors, great content, but we need your photos or the calendar just isn’t the same!
You know the drill. Look through the thousands of images you have stored on your camera…you KNOW you have them! Send us the great slice-of-life images that make CK Today so special. Remember, the pictures that aren’t posed are the best. Our theme is “Chatham-Kent people doing what Chatham-Kent people do”. That leaves it pretty open!
Calendar photos need to be clear and crisp and in a high resolution because the final print size is 8”w x 6.5”h (20 cm h x 16.25 cm w).
Please ensure your photos meet these requirements:
- Landscape layout.
- Glossy prints at the size of 10”w x 8”h (25 cm w x 20 cm h). These will be returned if you supply a self-addressed envelope.
- Digital files at a minimum resolution of 5 MG pixels, 300 dpi with an image area of 10” x 8” (25 cm x 20 cm)
We go to press with the calendar in late August, so please send in your photos now!
mail them to: info@ hughesadvertising.ca
Mail them to: Hughes Advertising Agency, 43 Victoria Ave., Chatham, ON N7L 2Z9
Only you can make it happen!

25 Years in a Flash!
23 June, 2010 07:00
Bless my soul! I can’t believe that tonight I’m heading to a fancy restaurant to celebrate my 25th anniversary of starting this company.
It was Hughes Creative back then because I started as a copywriter and “creative ideas person”. Why Hughes? Hughes is my middle name and I thought Clendenning was a bit of a mouthful to put on a company run by a 24-year old kid (…yes, I know you can figure out my age now!) Also, I wanted to name the company after my mom, Kate Hughes Clendenning, because she is the most creative person I know.
When I first started Hughes, I remember wishing I would hurry up and turn 30 because people would take a 30-year old more seriously. And there’s some wisdom to that. But it’s not because I was any more creative by the time I reached 30, but I sure knew how to run a business and treat clients better and that’s as important to success as the creative output.
What have I learned in 25 years?
- Surround yourself with staff who know about things you don’t. (I tend to fry computers and creative software just by going near them, so I let the experts handle the tekky side of life.)
- When you empower good people, they never let you down. Never.
- Your clients can be your friends. Do what’s truly in their best interest and the partnership is priceless.
- Trust that your experience is worth something. After 25 years, I know when a campaign will work or if it’s been watered down to the point it is useless. I’m no longer afraid to tell a customer if this happens.
- Working with your spouse is great (as long as Mike stays away from the creative). Seventeen years ago, when Mike joined Hughes and brought his marketing skills with him, the company truly took off. Smartest management decision I ever made!
What’s next?
Only more blessings. I am blessed that I love coming to work, sharing ideas with my creative team, and helping my customers increase their business. I am blessed to live and work in Chatham-Kent, which is the most generous community in Canada and has a very bright future. I am blessed to work with my best friend every day and that my kids joyfully come in to cut lawns and clean the office after school (okay, maybe joyful is too strong a word). I am just so truly blessed and I have faith the blessings will continue. God bless you, my friends.

Chatham-Kents lovin green! Green Living Expo a great success!!!
27 May, 2010 14:59
Well, our first Green Living Expo is done and over and it kind of feels like the day after a wedding…you’ve been planning it for so long that when it’s over you kind of think to yourself…what do I do today?
The logical answer would be “get ready for next year’s Expo”. But instead I’ll just enjoy the moment. A steady stream of people through showed me that folks are really interested in living green. The vendors were happy because they said the people that came were seriously interested in green products.
We raised $320 for a local cause…yet to be determined. I’ll wait for our next project meeting to see what great ideas the staff has for our donation. It’s not big, but it shows that the community is thinking in the right direction.
Thanks to everybody who stopped in…whether to talk solar power, more energy efficient heating and cooling, water efficient landscaping (didn’t you just love the bale garden?) to the ever-popular house cleaning systems that use no chemicals.
Now thinking of ways to make next year’s event better…Kermit as a guest host?
